Garnet O. Powell, MBA, CFA – President & CEO | Portfolio Manager

Powell Profile Pic LinkedInGarnet Powell manages investment portfolios and leads the activities of Allvista as President & CEO. He has over 20 years of capital markets and investment management experience. Previously Garnet analyzed and invested in equities at Aston Hill Institutional Partners (formerly Morrison Williams Investment Management). Prior thereto, Garnet was Portfolio Manager at a private limited partnership that pursued a global value mandate, and before that was Associate Portfolio Manager and Vice President at Kingsmont Investment Management. Previous investment experience includes Research Analyst at Foyston, Gordon & Payne where Garnet analyzed Canadian and Global Equities, and Investment Analyst at Cidel Asset Management (formerly Toron AMI International Asset Management) where he worked with Fixed Income and Equities.

In 2001 Garnet was recruited by FleetBoston Financial (acquired by Bank of America) to join their Risk Management division in Boston, Massachusetts. Subsequently, he joined the Business Development & Strategy – Credit Product Management group, spending nearly 4 years at the bank. Previously, Garnet spent 5 years at Bank of Nova Scotia where he began his capital markets career in 1996.

Garnet has in the past been an instructor of Credit & Market Risk at the University of Toronto’s School of Continuing Studies. He is also Editor-in-Chief of the Canadian Wealth Advisors Network (CWAN), an online network and publication serving over 1,400 investment advisors, financial planners, and other wealth management professionals.

Garnet holds a Specialized Honours Economics degree from York University, an MBA from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto, and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder.

Peter J. Kistemaker, CFA – Associate Portfolio Manager

Peter Kistemaker helps manage investment portfolios at Allvista. Prior to joining the firm, Peter was an investment advisor at Argosy Securities, providing wealth solutions to retail clients.

Peter’s capital markets experience began at BMO Nesbitt Burns in 1999 where he worked in Risk Management protecting clients and the firm from the market turbulence experienced during the dotcom boom and bust. Subsequent to that Peter worked in Compliance analyzing trade suitability. Peter then worked as an Associate Portfolio Manager at All-Canadian Management helping to manage a broad-based Canadian equity fund with a value bias. Peter’s previous roles have involved the analysis of individual equities. He has also analyzed investment fund mandates at Manulife.

Peter has in the past been an instructor for the Canadian Securities Institute.

Peter holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Guelph and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder.

Richard E. Farmer, MBA, CIM, FCSI – Senior Client Wealth Manager 

Richard Farmer is a Senior Client Wealth Manager at Allvista, leveraging over thirty years of experience in the financial services industry. As an Associate Portfolio Manager, he provides discretionary money management services to individuals, families, business owners, and retirees.

Richard holds a BA in Economics from McMaster University and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management/Schulich School of Business. He is a Chartered Investment Manager (CIM) and a Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute (FCSI).

In addition to his professional roles, Richard has contributed to the community, having previously served on the board of Big Brothers Big Sisters of York and held the position of Secretary/Treasurer at the Aurora Chamber of Commerce. He was awarded The Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medallion for his community volunteerism and currently serves on the Grant Review Team with the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

Mark W. Wilson, CIM – Associate Portfolio Manager

Mark Wilson is an Associate Portfolio Manager at Allvista. Mark has over 20 years experience in financial service and investment management.  Prior to joining Allvista, Mark was an Investment Advisor at Canaccord Genuity. Prior thereto, Mark was an Investment Advisor at BMO Nesbitt Burns. Mark’s experience began in the insurance industry.

Mark attended York University for Economics. He holds a Certificate in Advance Investment Advice from the Canadian Securities Institute, and is also a Chartered Investment Manager.

Vim Gurupira – Associate

Vim is an Associate with Allvista and is primarily focused on private wealth. He has developed in-depth insight in multi-asset portfolio construction and tax efficient solutions to meet the investment needs of clients.

Previously he worked in private wealth management with a leading global British advisory firm and has broad international experience in wealth management. He managed multi-sector portfolios with a client-centric approach that secured the financial future of many clients.

He received a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the London School of Economics and is a CFA level II candidate.
